Mystical Christmas - Sandro Botticelli. 108.5x75 cm
Amazing in its plot and composition, the painting “Mystical Christmas”, Botticelli created at sunset a creative and life path.
The plot of the picture, complex and ambiguous, was inspired by the sermons of the famous Savonarola under the influence of political unrest, shaking his native Tuscany Botticelli.
Everything in this picture is collected: both people who came to bow to the baby in modern clothes, and demons who seek to hide in the underworld, and three angels on the roof, marking the three most important forces - Grace, Justice and Truth, and an angelic round dance. In the upper part of the work, the master deduced an impressive inscription full of apocalyptic moods and intricate allusions.
It is noteworthy that this picture was opened to the world quite by accident - one Englishman saw it in the villa of Aldobrandini and decided to buy it, only after having examined the autograph of the great Botticelli. It is not known how the painter himself called one of his last paintings. The world famous name belongs to the famous art theorist John Ruskin.
